Safety Philosophy
A safety program must always start with a management team that wants a safe operation. Employees will work safely only to the degree of management expectations. Management interest must be vocal, visible and continuous.

Guiding Principles
The basic UCOSP objectives, that shape the Health and Safety programs, are:

To comply with the legal aspects of the OHS Act 85 of 1993, the Mine Health and Safety Amendment Act 74 of 2008 and the National Railway Safety Regulator Act 16 of 2002.

To establish Standards and Procedures in the Health and Safety System.

To nominate key personnel in the various Health and Safety appointments.

To continually review all safety measures on an inclusive basis.
