One of the company’s core business activities is the maintenance of the existing infrastructure on the Umfolozi floodplain. This includes road, rail, and drainage and flood protection (major spillways) infrastructure.

In order to adequately perform this function, as well as to be in a position to take immediate corrective action in the event of flooding, UCOSP has acquired the following earthmoving equipment:

Bulldozer: Bell D6 (36 ton)

Excavator: Hyundai Long Boom (26 ton, ½ m³ bucket)

Excavator: Bell Short Boom (30 ton, 1½ m³ bucket)

TLB:  Komatsu 4 x 4 (8 ton, 1 m³ bucket)

Grader: Komatsu GD650

Roller:  Bell smooth drum (10 ton, self-propelled)

When not being  utilised on the scheduled maintenance programme, the equipment  is available for rental to  shareholders and other local parties at competitive rates, however as this equipment is  required on short notice in the event of a flood, it is never sent out of the immediate vicinity.
